Prairie has designed a large number of projects created with and by the Aboriginal community both in Winnipeg and in First Nations communities in Manitoba and North West Ontario. Through these projects we have learned how to listen and how to work together with First Nations communities. Prairie has two Aboriginal graduate architects working on staff and through their leadership, the staff team has undertaken cross-cultural education awareness sessions to better understand the culture and traditions of First Nations. Prairie is registered with the PAR (Progressive Aboriginal Relations) Program of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business and is committed to sustainable Aboriginal development and relationships. Prairie has designed First Nations projects that include many major schools, several teacherage complexes, health centres, a children’s centre, major recreational facilities and several training/education centres. Common to all the facilities are the themes of collaborative and participatory projects that create dynamic new facilities centred on the community.
