Prairie has developed a primary focus on educational facilities including daycare environments, elementary schools and university facilities. We have worked with numerous daycares including the University of Winnipeg Childcare Training Program (3 centres), and with many communities in the development of new and redeveloped schools. We have completed three new comprehensive public schools in Northwestern Ontario in Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Fort Frances – we were selected for these schools because of our commitment to sustainable design and advanced smart building technology. Each of the schools has a welcoming entrance atrium, digital media rooms between the classrooms, media lounges and smart classrooms that are organized into effective educational zones. In addition, we have worked with many First Nation communities using the Collective Design Process to create unique new schools that reflect the culture and traditions of each community. In Winnipeg, we have designed a number of school redevelopment projects as well as new academic centres for the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba.
